The Stretch Factor: Why SBR Rubber Fails the Test

Getting the shape right is only half the battle. You also need the right rubber.

A tight tumbler sleeve needs to stretch. The customer has to pull it forcefully over the heavy metal cup.

If you ask a middleman for a cheap price, they will sell you Styrene Butadiene Rubber. We call this SBR.

You must use high-stretch rubber.

You need premium Chloroprene Rubber (CR) or a high-grade Styrene Chloroprene Rubber (SCR) blend.

These premium rubbers have massive elastic memory. When the customer pulls the sleeve over the wide top of the tumbler, the CR rubber expands smoothly and easily. Once the cup is inside, the rubber snaps back aggressively. It hugs the tapered metal perfectly. It forms a tight, secure grip. The cup will never slide out.

Why does my current tumbler sleeve have air pockets at the bottom?
