  • Flexibility: Excellent. It has superior elongation, a soft feel, and excellent "rebound" or "memory" (it returns to its original shape perfectly).

  • Durability: Excellent. It is highly resistant to abrasion, weathering, UV, oils, and chemicals. Critically, it has excellent resistance to compression set, making it perfect for high-impact or high-pressure applications.

  • Feel: Soft, supple, and feels like a premium, technical material.

When to Use It: CR is the only choice when performance, durability, and brand reputation are non-negotiable.

  • Ideal Applications: High-performance wetsuits (especially for diving), medical and orthopedic braces, premium electronics cases, and industrial components.


Tier 2: SCR (Styrene Chloroprene Rubber) — The Mid-Range Hybrid

What it is: SCR is a hybrid composite material that combines SBR and CR. Typically, it consists of a central core of SBR foam with thinner outer layers of CR laminated to each side.

  • Flexibility: Good. The outer CR layers provide a much softer feel and better flexibility than pure SBR.

  • Durability: Good. The CR layers add significant surface durability and weather resistance.

  • Feel: A good balance, feeling much more premium than SBR.

The Critical Detail: The performance of SCR depends entirely on the ratio of CR to SBR. A sheet with 50% CR content is vastly superior to one with only 15%. Always ask your supplier for this specification.
