To build a waterproof sleeve, you must look closely at the raw rubber core.
When you ask a middleman for a cheap price, they sell you Styrene Butadiene Rubber. We call this SBR.
SBR is a cheap industrial filler foam. It has a terrible, open, and weak cellular structure. It is mostly empty air.
SBR hates wet environments. When a mountain biker splashes through a muddy puddle, the SBR material acts like a kitchen sponge. It sucks the dirty water deep into the core.
The sleeve becomes incredibly heavy. The extra weight causes the sleeve to slide down the smooth metal fork. It bunches up at the bottom. It leaves the top of the suspension completely exposed to flying rocks.
Furthermore, when SBR gets wet and cold, it loses its stretch. When the suspension compresses over a jump, the stiff SBR rips in half.
You cannot use cheap SBR for outdoor protective gear. You need a closed-cell barrier.
To stop the mud, you must upgrade your rubber. You need premium Chloroprene Rubber (CR) or a high-grade Styrene Chloroprene Rubber (SCR) blend.
These premium rubbers have a highly stable, closed-cell structure. The microscopic gas bubbles inside the rubber are tightly sealed.
Water cannot enter a closed-cell sponge. Mud cannot penetrate it. When wet dirt hits our high-density rubber, it simply bounces off. The material stays incredibly lightweight, no matter how much it rains on the trail.
These premium rubbers also possess massive elastic memory.
A motorcycle shock moves violently. It compresses and expands hundreds of times a minute on a bumpy dirt road. Our high-density rubber stretches dynamically with the metal shock. It never restricts the movement of the bike. When the shock expands, the rubber snaps back instantly. It never bags out. It never sags.
A suspension sleeve must be easy to install. Mechanics and riders do not want to take their entire bike apart just to slide a tube over the fork.
The best design is a wrap-around sleeve. You wrap the material around the metal tube and secure it with a long Velcro strip down the side.
This creates a massive problem for standard fabrics.
If you use standard nylon or polyester on the outside of the sleeve, the Velcro hook will destroy it. Every time the rider adjusts the sleeve, the harsh Velcro rips the fabric threads. Within a month, the outside of the sleeve looks like a fuzzy, ruined mess. The Velcro stops sticking. The sleeve falls off during a ride.

When designing a fork sleeve, thickness is everything.
If the material is too thick, it causes a dangerous problem. When the bike suspension compresses fully, a thick sleeve will bunch up. The thick folds of rubber will get trapped between the moving metal parts. This can lock up the suspension and cause a terrible crash.
If the material is too thin, flying rocks will pierce right through it and scratch the metal fork.
You need the perfect middle ground. For mountain bikes and motorcycles, this is usually between two millimeters and three millimeters.
But thickness only works if it is perfectly uniform.
If you buy material from a cheap trading company, their slicing machines are terrible. The rubber sheet will be two millimeters on one side and four millimeters on the other. Your sewing factory will struggle to stitch it. The sleeve will bunch up unevenly on the bike.

How do we clean a muddy neoprene shock sleeve?
Because we supply closed-cell rubber, the mud never penetrates the core. The rider simply needs to take the sleeve off the bike and rinse it with a standard garden hose. The mud washes right off the outer fabric. The sleeve can be hung in the shade and will air-dry very quickly.
Will the heat from a motorcycle engine melt the neoprene sleeve?
Neoprene has a very high operating temperature compared to standard plastics. It easily survives the ambient heat radiating from a motorcycle engine or exhaust pipe. However, the sleeve should never physically touch a glowing hot exhaust header, as direct contact with extreme heat will scorch the outer fabric lining.
Can I sublimate a brand logo onto UBL fabric?
No. UBL is a highly textured loop fabric designed strictly for mechanical Velcro grip. It does not have the smooth, flat surface required for dye-sublimation printing. To add your brand logo to a UBL sleeve, your assembly factory should use a sewn-on rubber patch or a specialized, high-elasticity silk screen ink.
Does a thicker fabric lining make the sleeve more durable against rocks?
