You design a beautiful wetsuit or a premium knee brace. You buy rolls of neoprene fabric. You cut it, sew it, and sell it.
Your customer wears it a few times. They wash it. Then, they send you an angry email with a picture.
The picture shows the nylon fabric peeling completely off the black rubber sponge. It looks like a banana peeling.
This product failure is called "Delamination."
When delamination happens, the product is completely dead. You cannot glue it back together. You have to refund the customer. You lose money. Your brand looks cheap and unreliable.
Why does this happen? Is the rubber bad? Is the fabric bad?
No. The problem is the glue. More specifically, the problem is a cheap, untested lamination process at your supplier's factory.
Are you buying bulk neoprene without checking the glue strength first?
Let us look at how factories make neoprene fabric.
They take a big sheet of black rubber sponge. They roll liquid glue onto it. They press a sheet of fabric on top. Then they press it together.
It sounds simple. But it is actually a complex chemical process.
If the factory uses cheap glue, the bond is weak. If the factory does not use enough pressure, the bond is weak. If the factory rushes the curing time, the bond is weak.
The scary part? When the roll of fabric arrives at your warehouse, it looks perfect. You cannot see a weak glue bond with your eyes.
You will only find out the bond is weak after your customer uses the product in salt water, hot sun, or heavy sweat.
How do you protect yourself before you buy?
You must ask the factory for a Lamination Bonding Strength Test Report (also known as a Peel Test).

Do you see the risk? If your supplier cannot provide a test report, they are hiding something.
A Peel Test report looks like a complicated science document. But it is actually very easy to understand.
A testing machine clamps the rubber in one jaw and the fabric in another jaw. Then, it pulls them apart. The machine measures how much force it takes to rip the fabric off the rubber.
Here are the only three things you need to look for on that report:

Look at the numbers on the side of the graph. The force is usually measured in Newtons per centimeter (N/cm) or Kilograms per inch ( kg/in ). This tells you how much pulling power was used.
2. The Average Peel Strength (The Big Number)
This is the most important number on the paper. The machine calculates the average force needed to peel the fabric across the whole sample.
For a standard wetsuit or brace, you want to see a minimum bonding strength of 10 to 12 N/cm.
If the number is 5 N/cm, the glue is terrible. Run away.
3. The Failure Mode (What actually broke?)
Look at the notes at the bottom of the report. How did the sample break?
If the note says "Adhesive Failure," it means the glue failed. The glue was weak.
If the note says "Material Failure" or "Sponge Tear," this is actually good news! It means the glue was so strong that the rubber sponge ripped before the glue gave up. That is a perfect lamination bond.

Q1: Does water or sweat weaken the lamination bond over time?
Cheap glues are water-soluble, which means water dissolves them. That is why cheap wetsuits delaminate quickly. We use specialized, water-resistant cross-linking adhesives. Our lamination is designed specifically to maintain its high peel strength even when soaked in ocean water or sweat for years.
Q2: Can I send you a sample of my current fabric to test?
Yes. If you are having delamination problems with your current supplier, send us a sample. We will put it in our lab testing machine. We will give you a Peel Test Report showing exactly how weak their glue is. Then, we will send you a sample of our fabric to show you the difference.
Q3: Does a thicker fabric require a stronger peel test score?
Yes. A heavy-duty fabric (like Kevlar or heavy nylon) does not stretch easily. When the product is bent, the stiff fabric pulls very hard against the rubber. For heavy fabrics, we use a stronger adhesive process to achieve a much higher peel strength score, preventing delamination.
Q4: Is solvent-based glue stronger than water-based (Aqua) glue?
In the past, solvent-based glues were much stronger. However, chemical technology has improved greatly. Today, we offer premium water-based lamination (Aqua-glue) that is eco-friendly, non-toxic, and passes strict high-tension peel tests. We offer both options based on your budget and environmental goals.
