The magic of Supratex is its stretch. It provides massive abrasion resistance, but it still bends easily in four directions. This makes it the absolute best choice for surfing wetsuit knees, lightweight cycling pads, and tactical elbow guards. You get excellent survival against scrapes without losing joint mobility.

Kevlar Woven Blends
This is the nuclear option. When you are designing gear for downhill mountain biking or motorcycle racing, you need bulletproof protection. We laminate our rubber cores with authentic Kevlar-blended fabrics.
Kevlar is virtually indestructible. It will slide across jagged concrete without ripping. However, Kevlar is very rigid. It hates to stretch. If you make a whole knee pad out of Kevlar, the user will struggle to walk. You must use this fabric very strategically.


The Designer’s Secret: Zoned Material Construction

How do the smartest brands use Kevlar without making the knee pad too stiff?

They use a strategy called Zoned Construction.

A knee pad does not hit the ground everywhere. The impact only happens directly on the kneecap. The back of the knee and the sides of the leg never touch the ground.

The Engine of the Pad: High-Density Rubber Cores

The outer fabric stops the cuts and scrapes. But the fabric does not stop the impact energy. The rubber core stops the energy.

You must choose the right chemical rubber.

If a middleman offers you a cheap price, they are selling you Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR). SBR is a cheap, weak industrial filler foam. If you crash on SBR, the internal gas bubbles burst immediately. The rubber crushes flat to the bone. It offers zero protection. It also has terrible elastic memory. Once it bends, it stays warped.

You must use pure Chloroprene Rubber (CR).

Pure CR has a dense, highly stable cellular structure. When the athlete hits the ground, the CR bubbles compress smoothly to absorb the shock. Then, they instantly bounce back to their original shape.

There is one more trap in the supply chain. You can pick great Kevlar. You can pick premium CR rubber. But if the factory uses the wrong glue, the knee pad will still fail.

Frequently Asked Questions for Protective Gear Designers

How can I test the abrasion resistance of a fabric sample?
Do not just look at the fabric. Test it aggressively. When we mail you a physical sample of our Supratex or Kevlar, take it outside. Rub it hard against a rough concrete sidewalk. Cheap nylon will instantly pill and tear. Our specialized anti-abrasion fabrics will resist the friction and maintain their woven structure.

Will heavy-duty Kevlar fabric cause the athlete to sweat more?
Kevlar is a dense weave, so it breathes less than standard nylon. For heavy knee pads, we highly recommend using our precision mechanical perforation services. We can punch hundreds of tiny, geometrically spaced ventilation holes through the entire sheet. This allows trapped body heat to escape outward while maintaining excellent impact protection.

Can you make the inside of the knee pad feel softer against the skin?

Not always. The chemical density of the rubber matters much more than simple thickness. A very thick pad made of cheap, airy SBR foam will easily crush flat to the bone under a heavy hit. A slightly thinner, highly calibrated pad made of dense, premium CR rubber will absorb the kinetic energy much more efficiently.

How do you package these thick materials for international shipping?
